Come out and support our summer missions to both Charlestown WV and Lima Peru by eating some delicious BBQ. Saturday March 16th, from 11am – 4pm, Arlington Baptist Church will be hosting a BBQ fundraiser for missions. You can pick up your pre-purchased order at the Church or on the corner of HWY 51 and Lawyers Rd. Tickets are on sale now for $7 for a plate (bbq, slaw, beans, and a roll) or $7 for a pound. Call the church office for more information or go to our website for info or to pay for your order.

In August of this year the Men of Arlington will embark on a journey to Peru to aid in the building of a church in a village in the jungle. This would be a seven day trip, and would provide a great opportunity for our men to serve the people of Peru, build relationships with one another, and grow closer to God, by serving Him on the mission field. Any efforts made to help those going into the mission field this year will be greatly appreciated. This BBQ is a wonderful way to get involved in the missions at Arlington and a great time to fellowship with others!

2012 has been a wonderful year for Arlington. The growth in our church has been exponential. Our Family Life Center, which completed its constructed in the middle of 2011, has offered us many opportunities for expanding growth and providing community outreach. Both of our Sunday services have increased in the past year and has prompted us to make some changes to our Sunday morning schedule. Below you will see the slightly altered Sunday morning line-up:

8:15AM: Bible Study

9:30AM: Traditional Worship in the Chapel

9:30AM: Bible Study

10:45AM: Contemporary Worship in the Family Life Center

10:45AM: Bible Study

We will also be starting our new series entitled “Road Rules” where we will learn about the four events in the life of Christ that He turned into teaching moments, summarizing each story with a simple statement. These statements contain essential principles for Christian living — they are the rules of the road for anyone wanting to live in God. Join us in this series as we learn about a life of grace, a life of faith, a life of service, and a life without limits. Join us on the very first Sunday in January and invite a friend.

All this and more beginning Sunday, January 6, 2013.

October is always an exciting month for Arlington. It is in this month that we celebrate our Homecoming! Today we celebrated our 132nd year of worship and ministry and we are excited to see what is in store for Arlington in the years to come.

With our Homecoming, the month of October will be very busy for Arlington. Below are a few highlighted events we would love for you to be a part of!

Room In The Inn–Host Nights: We are currently accepting small group sign-ups for hosting Room In The Inn starting each Tuesday night from December 4th–March 2013. If your Sunday school class, Ministry Team, or any other small group would like to be a part of this rewarding ministry and host a Tuesday night, please contact the church office!

Operation Christmas Child: Once again, this year you will have an opportunity to make a child smile! In a couple of weeks, we will be participating in Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. We want you to pray over your box, and fill it with items for a child 2-4 years old, 5-9 years old, or 10-14 years old. Last year we donated 81 boxes, hopefully this year we can donate over 100 boxes. Thank you in advance for your help with this life-impacting project!

During the month of October we will be collecting Canned Soup for the Loaves and Fishes Food Collection. Please place items in the marked bins in the Worship Center and Family Life Center. Thank you for helping those in our community.

This past Saturday, more than 30 volunteers joined ServeCharlotte from Arlington at the Crisis Assistance Ministry in downtown Charlotte to sort through clothes and other donated items.

Crisis Assistance is a three part ministry that provides clothing, furniture, and financial support to people who are facing financial emergencies. Through the ReStore, people in need can come once a month and pick up different items for their families based upon their age and household size. Some of the items are clothes, shoes, school supplies, blankets, etc. Crisis Assistance also provides help with rent and utility payments for those that have missed payments or are facing eviction.

Another way to participate with the Crisis Assistance ministry is by donating school clothing and uniforms during the week of August 13-19 at the Family Life Center (FLC). The items will be taken to the Crisis Center for sorting and eventual distribution.

In Matthew 28 in the “Great Commission” Jesus, after the resurrection, instructs the eleven disciples to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Jesus tells his disciples to go. He instructs them to keep moving and to keep loving and to keep witnessing. He commands them to go. So what does this mean for us? Jesus commands us to go out and make disciples and not just in Africa or Asia or third world countries. He means everywhere including our communities.

The perfect opportunity has come for you to participate in going out. ServeCharlotte is a quarterly mission event that the entire church can participate in. The hope of ServeCharlotte is that every ministry, group, or individual would set aside their plans once a quarter and be the hands and feet within the community.

Saturday, August 11 from 9-11 am, Arlington will take a team to the Charlotte Crisis Assistance Ministry to help sort, shelve, and organize donated items in their “FreeStore”. Anyone interested in helping out can sign up by August 8 via their connection cards received during the Sunday morning services.

Another way to participate with the Crisis Assistance ministry is by donating school clothing and uniforms during the week of August 13-19 at the Family Life Center (FLC). The items will be taken to the Crisis Center for sorting and eventual distribution.

Last Sunday, the Elders and Deacons laid hands on Shannon Goble and her family, and Pastor Rick prayed healing and strength over her. The Wednesday before, the congregation consisting of children, youth, and adults laid hands on Cecil Troutman and Robbyn Hooks, two missionaries that were flying to Romania for a medical missions trip. The Sunday before that, the youth participants of World Changers prayed over Lauran Burrows and Daniel Machon in a chorus of prayers before they left for their mission trip to South Africa. The list of prayer moments like these is never-ending. Prayer at Arlington is a big deal. As it should be.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 says, “Pray without ceasing.” There is no wiggle room in that verse. It doesn’t say “Pray occasionally…Pray sometimes… Pray when you are in a sticky situation.” It says without ceasing.

At Arlington, we pray. It’s a BIG deal here. We pray over soldiers leaving for basic training and deployment. We pray over families that are struggling. We pray healing for those suffering with diseases and illness. We pray over missionaries as they go out on the mission field here and over seas. We pray for our nation and for our president. We pray for those who are mourning. We pray for everyone. As a body of Christ, we have been commanded to pray and to pray without ceasing.

At Arlington, we have no “special” connection to the Lord that is denied to other Christians. We have the same connection as every other Christian. The Lord gave us the beautiful opportunity to speak with him as often as we desire. Why not use it? Don’t know where to begin or even how to start?

Next week, Pastor Steve will start a new series called “Prayer: The Ultimate Lifestyle”. Come and learn the beautiful language of prayer that the Lord has given us.
